1920 Mauser C96 Red Nine 9mm, All Matching
Offered for sale is a highly desirable 1920 Mauser C96 Red Nine chambered in 9mm Parabellum. This is a true Big Red Nine example, identifiable by the large red painted numeral “9” on the grips, originally applied to distinguish 9mm pistols from 7.63 Mauser during military service. This pistol is all matching, including frame, bolt, barrel extension, and internal components, making it a scarce and collector grade example.
This Mauser C96 was produced in the post World War I period and later marked “1920,” indicating official Weimar era property marking required for retained military arms. The 9mm Red Nine variant is among the most sought after C96 configurations due to its limited production and direct German military history. Unlike later commercial variations, these pistols were purpose built for military service and represent a critical transition period in German arms development.
Condition is consistent with an authentic, unaltered collectible. Original finish and markings remain intact, serial numbers match throughout, and the grips retain the correct Red Nine designation. These pistols are increasingly difficult to find in correct, matching configuration and are highly valued by advanced Mauser and WWI era collectors.
This firearm qualifies as Curio and Relic eligible and is a centerpiece addition to any serious historic handgun collection.
